Interesting read. I see most of the valuable info came from the OP. I fully agree on the limited value of hiring "experts" when dealing with complex issues. Hell, I check the work done when having the oil changed in my truck. Too many YouTube techs out there.

True apprenticeship programs are almost a thing of the past as is pride in a craft.
