Some very good paints for saltwater are very adversely affected by fresh water (Micron 66, for example). We travel back and forth between and have been very happy with SeaHawk's BioCop, an ablative paint
that works in both. Two coats are definitely worth it for any paint
But... a paint formulation's performance can vary a lot depending on local environment
and biology. Your best place to get a recommendation is locally.
