Blisters and what to do

We purchased a 1972 Morgan 30/2 last year for 4,000.00. Fresh water only boat. Always boaters...first sailboat.

Like boat, sails well. Issues have come up. Know can find several for under 9k that others have redone.

Previous owner cut 9 inches off keel. It leaks....lots of places... When hauled out bottom has hundreds or more of small blisters.

We love old boat. Cleaned up stuff inside and can see enjoying. Being stuck in northern latitudes (cold, snow and winter) have spent time buying things to add or change on boat over winter. New club racing halyards...running rigging...bilge solutions...new batteries...etc....

When pulled out in November noticed lots of small blisters. I ground them out then.

Boat on hard. Cold winter here in Midwest.

I will never get my money out of this boat. But can have a ton of fun with it for what it cost.

Is not worth having someone do complete bottom job.

Was quoted 1000.00 to peel it locally. I would then have to barrier coat etc.

I know they may come back. Definitely will if just patch and paint. Should I do or skimp?

I also have several thousands in add on stuff that am now wondering if better added to more sound boat.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Already ground them down. Looked at boat today and decided to go ahead with peel. Will barrier coat and paint. Better job and will save me a lot of time.

Plan to enjoy regardless as long as still floats!

Fix the problem the correct way.

If you've already ground the blisters out, it cannot be peeled properly. The peeler guide will dip into each blister divot and make big gouges. Should have done it right in the first place, now you are locked in to grinding the whole bottom.
