Best way to renew water repellent properties of Sunbrella?

Sunbrella holds up well in serious sun but it does seem to eventually lose its water repellent properties. I have typically used 303 to restore water repellency on the binimi and dodger but it is both expensive and can be hard to find in some parts of the world.

I found this article which recommends using a mixture of silicone sealant and "white spirit". Does anybody have experience with this approach? Does it work? Any downside?
