Best Place to Refit (not DIY) in Eastern Florida?
I need to find a place to do a massive refit/build out of my catamaran whilst I'm overseas.
Looking to deliver the boat there and get the following work done while im gone until spring.
1) Interior cabinetry, berths, lockers, steps, heads, showers. Preferably built in foam/glass, possibly using wood as well if sealed.
2) Door/window hardware
3) Possibly renew hydraulic steering
4) hull liner (plastic face foam board)
5) Deck nonskid
6) Davits
7) Composite Chain plates
Looking for a yard that is moderate to low cost and does a good job, of course, while keeping an eye toward weight in all construction.
Location would be anywhere on the east coast of Florida.
Really need expertise in finish work. Beam is 25', but work could take place in the water.
Any suggestions?

You didn't say how big your cat is. Not knowing, I might suggest Holland Marine in Green Cove Springs Fl. They have a small clean yard and a lift that can handle about anything.

I had said 25' beam, since that's all that matters.
Holland was on my list. A good suggestion. Isn't theree a good one in vt Lauderdale and a guy in St Augustine that tturns out Woods and Wharrams?

Lauderdale Marine Center is the largest and have numerous contractors on site where you may get different quotes to do the work. I haul there every 2 years and their always dependable and have nice facilities, wifi, Captains lounge etc. Approximately 4 miles inland up the New River.

A couple of people recommended Just Catamaran's (Dania Beach) to me. I haven't used them yet, so I'm just passing the recommendations on.

Go to the website for the Hillsborough Inlet Sailing Club and find the newsletter. At about page 16 or so you will see an ad by Danny Escobar who does everything you need done, last I recall he did his work at a yard in Dania, just south of Ft.Lauderdale.
He has done work on my boat, tell him Pat N. from Ft. Lauderdale now in Tampa sent you.

I haven't been there in several years but there is/was a diy yard in Lauderdale called Playboy Marina. Check it out.

As an absentee owner I would NOT have any work of this magnitude
done.

Absolutely! At the very least hire an independent project manager/overseer for the job.

Is Stuart Dodd still active in the Ft Lauderdale area? I would dare to leave during the job when he is in charge, monitoring or doing the job.

This is of course subjective ... What hourly rate do you have in mind?
I supervised a refit of a 92ft sloop at Thunderbolt Marine Inc. close to Savannah ( Thunderbolt Marine Inc.) from July to mid November 2015.
The owner and I were very satisfied. We went there after comparing yards between Florida and Maine and I would definitely go there again.
Regards,
Carsten

In addition to my own cat, I have supervised a number of overhauls since the late 1990s at Lauderdale Marine Center, which I highly recommend. As previously mentioned, most if not all of the trades you will need are on-site and the yard personnel (and management) are easy to work with. Rates are typically competitive and several vendors actually specialize in cats. If you call them, ask for Sarah Allenger and tell her you were referred by the owner of WILD ORCHID.
Good luck.
