What works in 3rd world countries (I have bought these in Panama) is 3M VHB tape as the adhesive, then finish by caulking the edges with door and window sealant from the hardware store. The latter is a lower grade than the structural silicones mentioned, but the VHB tape provides ample adhesion

No one has mentioned butyl tape. Thoughts on. This as a sealant?

Butyl tape is used between the hatch frame and the deck, where you have mechanical fasteners
