Battening down the sail locker.

We have a large sail locker(2 doors) on the bow of our boat that we are trying to figure out the best way to "lock" it for transit. We don't want it to open is we take a knockdown as it would allow a large quantity of water into the boat.

Any one have any suggestions? I sure don't want to padlock it closed. I need something with a low profile so I don't keep hitting my toes on it as I go around the deck.

There are "turn button" latches sold for that purpose. You make a circular recess in the hatch, bolt the latch through. It sits entirely in the recess, and when you turn it, it extends a bar sideways to fit into a mating part on the other hatch, or deck.

That's what usually is stock equipment on bow lockers.
