Barnacle, or GMO saildrive villain?
What the heck is the dark brown growth on top of the sail drive water intake?

What is it about the water intake that causes the localized growth, and is there anything to poor down the strainer to combat it?

What type of Barnacle is this?
The photo in the OP shows growth unlike barnacles I've seen before. Does anyone know what kind it is?

What's the best way to fight this?
