Awlgrip Tips Please?

well Mark you just put the coat on so the long term affects of not using the primer etc. won't show up for a while. But if DTW is doing a major job like the hull etc. I would never advise them not to follow the instructions provided by the paint company. This is just too big a job to see it totally fail within months. We painted Sea Trek 7 years ago and she still looks new, and that is because we took the time and spent the extra money to do the job right.

Did you feel you really needed to do 3 coat of the Awlgrip?

I am in South Florida and humdity is my big concern with this project. Primer plus 2 coat is 3 days.... if 3 coat of top coat are necessary it is now a 4 day project.

David, you only have to do as much as you want. the rest will determine how good the job looks and how well it holds up. You can of course do a half ____ed job and cut corners and use substitute products or you can do it right and have a professional looking job that will last. I guess the question is, if you don't care how it looks why do it at all?

David I only went to 3 coats because of the manufacturer's recommendations. I could have stopped at 2 in hindsight.

If you are doing the entire hull I also agree with the primer recommendation.

I have painted AwlGrip over epoxy primers...no problems.

I painted a coat late in the day on my house, and it lost it's gloss. I did another coat the following, and 3 years later stilla brilliant white............

It is very important that you not let dew settle on it before it is completely dry or it will blush or turn dull.
