I fortunately for me have both, but unfortunately for sailing have both.

If I want to keep my wife and children on a boat I am going to have to princess up a bit and get the amenities
Did you consider

Re: Are Toaster Ovens too hot?

I have a toaster oven on board. The device is useful, but the extremely hot walls are a PITA. And it's a PITA to store.

I think the best answer to this problem is a combination microwave/convection/grill, built in. I have a built-in microwave/grill which is used on a daily basis, and which is a Godsend on a boat notwithstanding what some of the "less is more" brigade might tell you.

It's a Godsend because when you're sailing, there are millions of situations where you need to just warm something up.

I would like to change it out for one with a convection oven built in, but this project has not made it far enough up the list to start to be real, so far.

The convection oven would be far more useful than a simple toaster oven, because you can do all kinds of things in it which you would otherwise use the gas oven for. Gas ovens suck in general (as much as I love gas cooktops), and boat gas ovens suck big time. They use tons of gas and don't heat up very well. An electric convection oven would be a totally superior solution.

As to power usage -- such devices are not an issue when on shore power. At anchor, I just use my generator.

You mean like a pink bucket for the head?

To answer your question...yes, I have a wife and 2 teen kids. And no, they won't sail with me, or even visit the boat anymore.

I even spoiled my kids and gave them the private "aft cabin" to use (see pic attached) when they were little.

I like both a microwave and a toaster oven.

Re: Are Toaster Ovens too hot?

Years ago we have a micro / convection oven, couldn't broil or toast, but for cooking, it was the bomb. I don't know if they are still made or not, haven't seen one in a long time.

Re: Are Toaster Ovens too hot?

Reminds me of years ago, anchored in Malaysia next to a old English cruiser, he had a pressure cooker and thru a piece of meat in it, cooked it, cut off some meat and we had dinner along with Pink Gins which means sans ice, the next evening we had that chunk of meat again after bringing the pressure cooker up to steam and ate another chunk of meat [ I was helping him plug toredo holes after burning the holes and plugging said holes, this being done at low tides, during this period I listened to many interesting stories of his cruising life clear back to the 40'S, he [Edward Allcard] is still alive, over 100, living in Andore.

I had to start somewhere ya know! (and knowing the op a bit, it's 180 from his nature... that's why it was funny)

Without quoting the entire thing.... This is surely one of the best posts on CF period...

These came into vogue shortly after the microwave became popularly available.... And the leaning curve of the mfg's was not up to speed yet...

They totally did (do) rock!
