Re: Another Dodger Project

Another nice looking dodger.

The dodger is coming of and going back to the welding shop again.

I put ugly corners on the transition from tube to channel on the back end of the slot and have discovered that in addition to ugly they were hard of the head. In between prevaricating and procrastinating sessions I grabbed a hacksaw and chopped them of at 45 degrees and will now cap the cuts with flat bar. Hacking a bit off is often a good way to induce commitment.

Re: Another Dodger Project

The nasty temple gouging corner in the images in the previous post required the removal of the dodger from the boat and a trip to the welder and re-installation but it does not look excessively nasty and certainly an improvement in both looks and temple gouging capability than it was.

The project was undertaken during a CV19 lock down, which actually turned out quiet handy from a dodger building viewpoint. The lock down was lifted and a terrible urge to go sailing overcame me, consequently little progress on the built and a bit of a setback.

Good call on removing that potentially damaging corner and it looks better too!

Re: Another Dodger Project

Finally decided how to fabricate a piece to go into the slot I left down the middle for easy access under the dodger.

Decided to have a frame which would hinge up at the stern end to give me more headroom. I'll decide some time in the future whether or not to cut a window in the top and put a polycarbonate piece in there.

The first image is the hatch in place and the second during fabrication and how rectangular hollow sections were fabricated into the edges to give them torsional rigidity.
