Anodes/Zinc placement and connections

What should be connected to the sacrificial anodes on a fiberglass monohull? How many are necessary? Im not talking about prop and shaft zincs.

I've yet to research the problem so I can't really help. I've decided to switch to Trudesign (non metallic) through hull fittings so that will take care of one problem.

When I do get around to installing them I'll probably be guided by video clips like this.(I haven't viewed tjis video clip so apologies if it is a dud!)

Thats a hard question to answer without knowing a little more about the boat.

But typically you would also want to protect the rudder assembly.

Some boats wire in their skin fittings, though I haven't seen that set-up for a long time.

I have seen engines protected by hull anodes too.

Re: Anodes/Zinc placement and connections

They are bonded into the system, and placed near exposed metal. The number is indeed difficult to predict; ultimately you want -1.0 or so volts between a reference electrode and the bonding. Here's a reference electrode:

As long as I maintain that -1.0V on my steel hull, NOTHING below the waterline corrodes.

Nothing, such anodes are directly mounted on the metal they protect. There’s is no point simply attaching one to a grp hull.

What is it that you are intending to protect?

No one can anser that without knowing what boat and what engine and what drive system.
