I'm restoring a small leaky
Bomar hatch. Its cast
aluminum but they used some sort of
steel bolts for all the
hardware. Amazingly after 40 years the threads in the cast
aluminum base are in near perfect condition with almost no
corrosion you would expect between aluminum and stainless.
The bolts they used are non-magnetic but are not at all light in weight like you would expect aluminum bolts to be. Maybe they are stainless?
Anyways, is there any negative reason not to just replace them with aluminum bolts? They are 5/16-18 bolts so beefy enough and strong enough i would think.
