Altex No.5 over Jotun SV50

Would just like to ask if anyone has any info on covering Jotun SV50 Antifoul with Altex no.5? We would like to go back to Altex no.5 antifouling, the Altex reps say it should be ok but would like to hear if anyone has had any experience in doing so, basically is Altex no.5 compatible with Jotun Seavictor 50.

Cheers Rod.

Altex # 5 PLUS is now the go. more expensive (and therefore hopefully better ?) than the old # 5

we've just used it and so will be able to compare to the old # 5...but unfortunately cannot offer comparison to Jotun

fyi would have tried petit trinidad pro as alternative to 5 plus

i think they are all compatible

cheers,

If in doubt Altex have a tie/barrier coat called Primashield to go between.

Can you tell me why you want to go from Jotun SV50 back to Altex #5? We have had several issues with the Altex and are looking at going the other way.
What was your problem with the Jotun?
We found the Altex was ineffective in NSW waters over several years and two haulouts/re-paints.

Thanks Rod

We had been using No.5 for the last 12yrs without a problem down in and around the southern states, we arrived in Queensland and hauled out, we were advised if going further north ie: FNQ then we should change to SV50, 6mths later barnacles everywhere, haulout reverted to no.5 & two yrs later no problems, sticking to no.5.

Are you using it up north in very warm water? We are hauling out on the Gold Coast with the intention of going to the top end and then into Indonesia and the yard advises we use SV50.
As said, we are not fans of the Altex and want something a bit harder that will last longer and not be easily removed with a light scrub if needed.
