Hey all,
Irma tore through
Miami and I survived, more importantly so did my
boat...mostly. I did everything I could (haul out was not an option); doubled my lines, made them long to account for storm surge (I'm right on Biscayne Bay), extra fenders the whole bit. The issue I did run into was that apparently a PVC pipe filled with concrete broke free from the sea wall I was tied to and leaned into my
dock space right below my bow (presumably sometime after the spring line cleat ripped out of the concrete leaving a big chunk missing from the sea wall). Anyway, my bow was slamming down on this pipe leaving a 6" long "gash" in my bow just below the
water line. Of course this is the time that a wire on my
bilge pump decides to break. When I got to her yesterday, there was about 2.5-3' of
water in the
cabin. Got her floating completely yesterday, and went back today with some more
emergency supplies. Basically, I just jammed some
epoxy sticks onto the hole to at least slow the leak. Now the
bilge pump runs every 10 minutes or so. I couldn't believe this one but it also snapped every bolt on my
rudder gudgeon; easy enough fix just weird. Other than that it's some minor gel coat damage and drying stuff out. I'm also pretty sure I have to drain my
diesel tank as well.
Question: I need to patch this up in the water until I can get her hauled out. Does anyone have any advice/experience with in water patches? If so, which ones? Again, it doesn't have to be permanent but if it can buy me some time that would be awesome.
