Most failures with hydraulic systems come from loose,mismatched fittings, blown hoses or contaminants in the circuit.

Stick with wire pulley systems.. easily jury repaired.. hydraulics fails out in the ocean or a remote location and your stuffed.. unless your carrying a complete redundant backup..

Incorrect. You could fill a hydraulic steering with sea water if you had to and it would get you home. Cooking oil would be preferable.
