2-part topside finishes

I'm looking to paint my topides next spring and now that Interlux Perfection is no longer available there really doesn't seem to be much available in 2 part finishes that are designed to be rolled an tipped. I looked at Epifanes but its not available in the colour we want. I'm considering using EZ-poxy with the performance enhancer. What is the general consensus on this combination?

I'm also considering using Endura 2 part finishes also

Re: 2-part topside finishes

We actually use a Sherwin-Williams two-part. They have plenty of even mil-spec finishes, tough enough for a steel boat, and the prices are better than the Interlux we used to use. They are avsilable through the same S-W house paint dealers in any ol' city.

I assume you are looking for "friendly" two-part poly u paints - I have used Awlgrip a lot - the quality goes without saying and I can attest to its user friendliness.

You can also check Total Boat and Alexseal, two names that are aimed at the DIY, widely available and have had some good reviews.
Price wise, I don't think any can beat SW stated by tkeithlu above.

I've never seen Totalboat or Alexseal products in Canada. I've used Total boat in the U.S. with good results. Any thoughts on either PPG or Endura paints?

I could not find anyone that would sell Endura to me Canada or the US.
Alexseal I could buy, but since the prices were par with Awlgrip, and I had used Awlgrip, I went with it. PPG I am buying but its bottom paint, but I'll go to Niagara Falls, NY to get it.

I may have to buy some cans as long as they are available in my color.

No one sells (or stocks it any longer ) and when I asked at the boat show last January I was told by Interlux rep that its no longer available (in Canada).

I used to paint small planes with catalyzed single part finishes. There is no doubt you get a more shiny surface for a while. It's more brittle and will chip and crack on thin metal. It's not nearly as good as Acrylic urethane or Polyurethane

Fair enough, it is still available in the US. Must be the rather nasty Aliphatic Polyisocynates Canada has put restrictions on.

I've also had good luck with a 2-pack pack polyurethane from Sherwin Williams. Product is called 'high solids polyurethane'. They can tint any color you can dream of, and its designed of marine industrial use.

Re: 2-part topside finishes

Watch “boatworks today” on YouTube. He recommends the alexseal now, for the principal reason that you can roll/tip it and you can also repair and cut/buff it. He says none of the others let you do this which makes it much the best solution if you’re not spraying.

Re: 2-part topside finishes

Perfection isn’t available in Canada any more. I have also checked with the Interlux rep. It’s too bad as I found Perfection to be pretty easy to use. Alexseal is available through Stright-MacKay in NS. They are a good bunch to deal with and ship if you are elsewhere in Canada. I haven’t tried the actual paint.
