1966 Jensen Marine 24.5 Parts and Rigging Help

Hi, I bought a '66 Jensen Marine 24.5 in Feb of this year. Having been sunk 3 times at her slip (from rain)and not registered in the last 10 she was a little rough as might be imagined. We've redone the interior, rewired completely.....a mess doesn't begin to describe it. I will be hauling her in October for a complete bottom job and new thru hulls. However, the rudder shaft is broken...I have the rudder and what's left of the shaft...any idea on where to get one, or should I just fab a new shaft. I can't find any info on this boat online. I found a bunch of flush deck boats, but mine actually has a cabin. I also need one of the rope guides on deck and can't find them anywhere. They are unique looking and sadly one of them is missing. Finally the running rigging on tis boat makes no sense to me, it has a roller furler for the jib, plus another setup to run another hanked on headsail, but the main and the dual backstay have thrown me for a loop. I'll post some pics of the boat and the rigging tomorow. Any help would be appreciated.

was designed by jensen and wenk or just jensen?? does it have a drop keel? should be a cal type boat?-- jensen and wenk and lapworth were cal yachts. if you cannot find a cal one then have one fabbed... my sons first boat was a jensen wenk 24 built of fiberglass in 1958 with a drop keel and built in game boards--backgammon and checkers/chess.... cute lil boat. sailed like a dream.

You prolly wanna go here and check;

Seal's Spars and Rigging

It could be an O'Day, a Cal or a Ranger, all made by the same yard during that time frame.

Got the hull marking on her? Usually inside the stern lazerette/locker on the starboard side.

No HIN in the lazette or on the stern. According to the title and registration it's a Jensen Marine 24.5. I bought it from the initial owners grandson. I'll post some pics. I know everyone says to look at the Lapworth 24 but it looks nothing like this.

Here are some pics...I can't find her anywhere on the net. I've looked at every Cal 25 I can find and they are way different on the inside as well as the rudder shaft layout.

Re: 1966 Jensen Marine 24.5 Parts and Rigging Help

looks jus tlike my sons jensen wenk 24. jensen is a different dsigner than is lapworth. they designed different boats. they joined to become cal in early 60s. this is a jensen designed boat, yes. not a lapworth. cal 25 was designed by lapworth and jensen and or wenk. you will have to have fabbed parts and you can get the rig done by anyone unless you wish to do it yourself, which will save you many hundreds of dollars.

\you have a sweet lil boat--i loved my sons -- was coool and fun to sail--although a bit wet when bashing..lol....\
my son's boat was draft 3 ft plus drop board. realllly fast and cute as can be..they just dont make em like this anymore...try to find jensen-wenk. the two designers made the plans for these---my sons was laid up in 1958, so is a long history.

Re: 1966 Jensen Marine 24.5 Parts and Rigging Help

Thanks for the info. I'm changing the running rigging but have a few issues. The main halyard is stuck at the top...eh I'll get that down, but the backstay has a line coming off of it that goes to nothing and the double back stay has a line to hold up the boom. I just can't find any info on what the extras do or how they are rigged.

one of the back stays is a topping lift, as i recall--the one that holds the boom, i believe. follow the lines to see what they do and for for it....they are fairly simple

i cannot guarantee my memory, as i havent seen upclose and personal a jensen wenk since 1992

unfortunately not--looks like the pictured one but had a green hull.

do not use snapshackles on the main. we found out the hard way. i had to tow my son into lost angeles harbor at dusk...... he hadnt lights and was out for a daysail and the snapshackle did just that-- snapped and no mo main....stinkpots are good for some uses.....

Where the rollers are to bend the mast is a cable for holding up the boom, the other cable isn't run through a sheave, it's coming from the backstay and doesn't move.
