ZF Hurth or Twin Disc Transmission

Crew
I am re-engining my Roberts 36, most likely with a marinised Kubota V2203, and have the option of either a ZF Hurth HBW150 or a Twin Disc MG360. Do you have an opinion either way? I have heard that Hurth, now made in Italy, may not be the machine they used to be, but would really appreciate current experience either way on either box. Thanks. Bill

Don't know the answer to your question but I am having my engine rebuilt at TAD and since my old ZF trans is unrebuildable, will have to purchase a new one. It is around 1500 USD. I noticed that most of the other tranny they have are about twice that in cost.
My guess is for your and my boat, the ZF Hurth would be fine, and I am going with that.
Besides whats not to like when its made in Italy...

I re-powered a year ago and found the best price from these people, Marine Transmissions - Home Page

I used a ZF63IV with the Yanmar 4JH4-TE.
