Yanmar wiring harness wanted to buy.

After 25 years, the wiring harness for my 4JH2-TE finally corroded at the various connectors near the engine. The remote panel is fine. Yanmar was able to find the harness that is actually on the engine itself. What they can’t seem to find is the extension harness that connects from the back of the panel to the engine harness. Yanmar list 3 different part numbers, depending on length.

The problem is that Yanmar decided to change the connectors, but kept the same part number for both the old and the new extensions. So they shipped me a new cable with "square" connectors that won’t connect to anything I have. I need a similar cable with "round" connectors.

Can someone out there somehow save me from having to build my own?

Thanks.
Rick

Buy the new repair connectors for the engine and panel side to match the extension.

Ah, I wasn’t clear. But you gave me an idea. I’ll do some research and try again. Thanks.

You were clear, you want an extension harness (nla) to match your engine and panel. Well, unless you find used or old stock that won’t happen.
BUT, you have a viable extension harness now. So update the other harnesses to match it.

Re: Yanmar wiring harness wanted to buy.

No I wasn’t. I ordered, brand new, the engine harness (round connectors) and the extension harness. (square connectors). I need both pieces because all the connectors are old and need changing. So the extension won’t connect at the motor end, or at the panel end. Nor will the extension connect at the panel end.

I might be able to order the harness for the back panel, maybe. If it has the square connectors, I can buy an adapter cable for the motor end. But it’s an old C-panel.

So far, I’m in it about $450 for the two cables. The adapter adds $150. If the panel cable is available, I have a workable, if expensive solution. If not, I’ll have to fabricate something which is a bigger job than I’d like.

Re: Yanmar wiring harness wanted to buy.

For what it's worth, perhaps for others going through this:

Most often, it is the connectors that "die" due to corrosion. It really isn't that much effort to remove the existing connectors and replace them with new throughout the harness, using the original wires (assuming the wires are good), even if you have to trim the ends quite a bit.

Good connectors from major manufacturers are readily available from many of the internet electronics company. You could easily create an entirely new harness for a fraction of the cost of OEM bits.

PS: the new connectors don't have to match the originals if you replace them all in pairs!

Ok
What about just cutting the extension in half and butt splicing it onto the other sub harnesses. Now you have the length with a connection in the middle.
