Yanmar tractor to marine block crossover

I've a 4JH4E. I believe it is based on a Yanmar tractor engine. I think Yanmar are mainly an agricultural engine seller in some parts of the world. Does anyone know of a crossover list for marine to tractor blocks?

Re: Yanmar tractor to marine block crossover

I can't help you directly Charlie. Attached is a list of some Yanmar marine engines which could be sort of helpful.

This link gives a reasonable amount of information about many Yanmar tractors and you can drill down though the links to find the commercial engine series of these tractors

https://www.tractordata.com/farm-tra...er-sorted.html

The only tractor / marine engine I know for sure is the 2QM20 engine which is fitted to the YM2000 tractors and is called a 2TR20 engine.

Re: Yanmar tractor to marine block crossover

Thanks Wotname. I have anecdotal evidence that the JH series and the 4TNV88 engine are the same block.

I found an overhaul kit for the 4TNV88 and it mentioned it could be used on the 4JH4E. I don't have the knowledge to judge whether the blocks are the same. Superficially they are the same.

What does the block serial number cross to?

Newhaul

Not quite clear what you mean.

Compare the block serial number of the two engines?

Re: Yanmar tractor to marine block crossover

As far as I know, Yanmar is marinizing engines with blocks from other manufacturers. My Yanmar 6LP-stp2 has Toyota cast in the block. I'm sure you could take a tractor engine and marinize yourself, however I'm not sure how cost effective that would be. It is certainly more than just slapping it in and hooking up marine raw water intake and exhaust.

Re: Yanmar tractor to marine block crossover

Yanmar's smaller engines are from their tractors. Yanmar tractors are painted green and sold as John Deere in the US so JD is a possible source of engine parts. They buy the larger engines from other mfg and marinize them, possibly 6 cylinder or larger

Actually the objective is finding parts cheaper than westerbeke list .
Like my westerbeke 10-2 it is a maranized mitsubishi k2b diesel tractor motor . As such the main engine water pump is about 1/4 the cost from tractor dealer than from westerbeke.

What specifically are you looking to do? Source cheaper parts? Replace the block? replace the whole thing?

I'm sure in the 2 years since he posted this question the issue has been solved one way or another .
