Yanmar seawater pump rebuild

Hi!
I am about to rebuild the seawater pump that are leaking from ”within”. Some internal sealing that needs replacement and I have ordered a big rebuild kit.

I have taken out the seawaterpump from engine and are about to take out the inside of the pump.

Yanmar documentation for the seawater pump is not so good.

Is the next step to hammer out the shaft and all will parts follow?
All suggestions are welcome!

Don't hammer anything until you know what you're supposed to be doing.

Are you aware of Maine Sail's excellent website?

https://marinehowto.com/

He has a pump rebuild example.

Good luck.

I put off learning how to do it, but it is simple with the right tools.

A nice big vise can be used as a press with a socket if nothing else is available

Re: Yanmar seawater pump rebuild

I think you need to remove the drive gear and see if there is a snap ring/circlip holding the bearings in the housing behind the gear. If there is a snap ring and you hammer or press the shaft out, you will damage the pump housing.
