Yanmar belt cover

Does anyone leave the belt cover off the Yanmar engine during normal use?

Oo! Now I'm jealous. A belt cover!

Does it capture the belt dust and prevent it coating every surface in the engine room?

Re: Yanmar belt cover

I was thinking about grime too. I does seem to collect all the grime that might otherwise get all over the engine compartment. Good point.

I guess some people just end up discarding them. But It does catch alot of grime for sure.

Re: Yanmar belt cover

Remove it. They decrease air movement to your alternator.

Re: Yanmar belt cover

You think not having it will make a mess of the engine room?

Re: Yanmar belt cover

I wish I had a belt cover on my older Yanmar. I'm scared to death that I'll open the engine cover and snag a rope or article of clothing in the belt while the engine's running.

Newer Yanmars come with them. I keep it on for looks and safety reasons. You can always drill some holes where the alternator is if you worry about cooling.
