What does "re core the filter on the engine" mean?" sounds to me like you have an air leak on a gasket in your fuel filters some where. When you removed the spin on filter on the engine, did the gasket on the filter stay on the filter? If you have the old gasket stuck on the engine, that can cause leaks.

Did you replace all the gaskets when you changed the filter in the racor? Make sure they don't twist. The little gasket that goes in the T-handle twists really easily and can let in air.
