Yanmar 4 jhe 4 year 2009 problem

Nit sure about the model name, but its a 54 hp, 4 cyl Yanmar from 2009. My problem is, that it starts fine and then runs fir 2-3 sec, then stops. Sometimes it does this 3-4 times before it keeps running. I have tried to preheat it more, up to 20 sec, and i have tried to give it a little trohttle. Without results. My best guess is that air is coming into the fuelline, but where? And why isnt there any problems when the engine runs. The only problem is starting it.

Solved by bleeding the fuel line!

Sure sounds like air in the fuel line. Have your ever replaced or rebuilt the fuel list pump? You did not mention the engine hours, but since it is a 2009 engine, the fuel lift pump is suspect. It is simple to rebuild if you are mechanically inclined. I can email an article I wrote some time back about rebuilding the pump. Two common air leaks: around the top of your Racor filter and around the valve stem(s) of any valves in your fuel system (shut off valve, tank selector valve, etc.) A quick check on valve stems is to coat the valve stem with grease (on the outside, of course). A distant problem: do you have a strainer on the fuel tank pickup tube? It may be clogged. If you have one, get rid of it. Your primary fuel filter and secondary (the one on the side of the Yanmar engine) make this troublesome strainer unnecessary.
