Yanmar 3JH5E

My sailboat has a Yanmar 3JH5E engine. I have an oil fill cap on the top of the
engine, and another cap that says OIL FILL on the starboard side just under the fuel filter. I've called several places that deal Yanmar engines and no one seems to know what this cap is for.

Anyone have any thoughts?

They’re both oil fills. Use whichever one is easier to fill. Lots of times the top of the engine is too close to an overhead obstruction to allow pouring in oil, so the alternative location is provided.

Welcome aboard CF, GlobalPilot.
Sailmonkey has it right, you can use either; whichever is more convenient to get access to.
Enjoy your boating!

Interesting ... I never noticed that till the op mentioned it. Then I took a look a my engine and saw that there is a metal plate covering where a second oil cap could be placed.
