Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
Hi.
I apologize in advance for my poor English.
I would like to know ? Will the Kanzaki km2p, km3p gearbox fit the yanmar 3jh2e engine?
Kanzaki kbw10 is currently installed, but there is a problem with running forward.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
greetings

Yes, but I would use the KM3P to better match the HP rating. The KBW and KM3 have different reduction ratios so be aware that your propeller may need some repitching.

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
I don't know if there is a difference in robustness between the KM2p and KM3p. My 3GM30 came with KM2P. The only difference I found between the KM2 and 3 was the gear ratio. My 2 is 2.2-1 while the three is 2.6 to one.
I might sell the KM3P that is currently in the boat and go back the KM2 for the gearing if you are interested.

Both the KM2 and KM3 have 2 different gear ratios and will come with a 3rd higher ratio with an oil cooler. I don't have the manual at hand but the KM2 has a lower hp/rpm rating than the KM3.

Thank you for your response. What do you think about KM3-A? Will it be good for yanmar 3jh2e? The gear ratio is similar.

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
The suffix A means that the output coupling has a down angle of 7 or 8 degrees. The suffix P means the output shaft is parallel to input shaft. If your current gearbox is a P stay with a P. Otherwise drive train alignment will be extremely difficult or impossible.

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
Thank you for the information. I did not know the letters P and A
Do you know if my Yanmar 3jh2e engine can be equipped with kanzaki km35p?

The A gearbox is the KBW10E which is a parallel output
The B gearbox is the KM3A which is the 7° down angle output
The C gearbox is the SD31 saildrive.
The OP has the KBW10E and wants to replace it. If he does, then the KM3P, the parallel output is the correct choice. The issue on all gearbox swap-outs is the number of splines on the input shaft, the bellhousing adapter fit, the offset of the input/output shafts, and the face to face length. He'll be fine if he uses the KM3P. Depending on the reduction ratio difference he may need to repitch the propeller but that is a small job.

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
The KM3P is a better gearbox in my opinion than the KBW10. The KBW was a knock-off of the Hurth multi-disc clutch and the KM3 series are the cone clutch type. More durable overall, but the downside of the Kanzaki cone clutch gearboxes is that you should let them freewheel when sailing. If you lock the shaft in gear, either forward or reverse, you can gall the cone and shorten it's life considerably.

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
Thanks for the answers.
According to the datasheet, the reverse of the km3p should fit.
I wrote to Yanmar if the new km35p reverse will be good.
I haven't received an answer yet.
Maybe then, will km35p be appropriate?
How is km35p different from km3p?
The current gear ratio was 2.48, km35p is 2.61, I think it will not significantly affect the speed of the boat.
greetings

Re: Yanmar 3jh2e - kanzaki km2p, kbw10, km3p
I just had the time to look at the KM35P very quickly. It seems that it will fit.
I do not know where you are located but the Kanzaki KBW10 was made by Hurth and is identical to the Hurth HBW10. A fully reconditioned one from a very reliable supplier is here https://www.drinkwaard.com/en/recond...ioned-gearbox/
And that price includes VAT. Make sure to replace your damper plate as well.
