Yanmar 3GM30F Electric Fuel Pump

I have an old Walbro 6805 electric fuel pump. I'm looking to replace it. But, the new version of it is the FRB-20, which is very difficult to obtain at the moment. The pressure on these is 2-4 psi.

If I went with the FRB-13 version that has a 6-8 psi, would that extra psi pressure be detrimental to the fuel system? Could it cause a problem with the diaphragm in the mechanical lift pump?

- My electric fuel pump runs continuously. It is wired to the starter switch.

- My engine is a 3GM30F

Thanks.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F Electric Fuel Pump

I have a Walbro FRB-13 on my PSC 34 sucking diesel fuel from a tank about 30" below the pump and through a Racor 500 10u filter before delivering under pressure it to the mechanical fuel pump of a Yanmar 3HM35F. It has worked fine since 2014. The Walbro fuel pump is energized whenever the engine is running.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F Electric Fuel Pump

Thank you. Very helpful.

I think I'll end up going for the FRB-13 with the higher pressure. Those are easily available. Rather than waiting months for the FRB-20.

The mechanical fuel pickup on the 3GM30F and 3HM35F seems to be the exactly the same. So, it good to know the 6-8 psi pressure from your FRB-13 did not adversely affect the diaphragm in it.

I'm also considering installing the Racor 500 fuel filter like your set up, if I could fit it. Have the Racor 230r now and it is a pain to change the filter. The Racor 500 is overkill for my sized engine. But, it will be a lot easier to change the filter.
