Yanmar 2GM20F Value
Looking at a used Yanmar 2GM20F as a replacement for my Atomic 4 (in a C&C 27).
The engine has unknown hours and I believe it to be 1987 vintage. Freshwater use only. Very clean looking from the pictures I've seen so far, and the pictures of the boat it's in gives me the impression that it's been well cared for. The Yanmar comes with everything except the propshaft (and I assume the prop). So that includes fuel tank, waterlift, exhaust hoses, harness, engine panel, control cables, filters, etc. Owner is converting to electric.
Any ideas of value? (assuming it checks out fine).
I realize all the potential headaches associated with conversions.

Re: Yanmar 2GM20F Value
He's asking $2500 CAN .... which right now is $1960 US (and dropping fast!!). It does look pretty good, far as I can tell.

Re: Yanmar 2GM20F Value
The engine certainly looks clean through the wonders of living in fresh water. With the short sailing season on the Great Lakes, it probably has very low hours for it's age. Haven't priced new engines lately but a 20hp diesel is probably getting well above 5 boat units. Figuring that and the accessories that come with it, wouldn't feel like I got taken if it could be had for $3,000 and anything less a deal. Depending on demand, would start low with the expectation that there would be some negotiating. FWIW, just paid $700 for a 3 GM transmission alone.
Does the engine have a heat exchanger or is it raw water cooled. Not a problem sailing in fresh water but becomes an issue if you'll be using the boat in salt water.

It is freshwater cooled ... that's the 'F' in the model number. And note in the 1st pic the heat exchanger with the rad cap on top left and the extra pulley for the FW pump btm left (left as in starboard side!).

Actually it's coming from Alberta ... but same difference.

The local Yanmar dealer has a new 2YM15 sitting on his floor on special for about 9 'boat units' (but again that's CAN $).
