which gearbox would work on my Volvo Penta TMD22P engine?
Hi, I hope you are well, I am currently looking for a Volvo Penta MS2AE 2:4.1 gearbox to put on my Volvo Penta TMD22P engine, besides that, what other gearbox would work correctly?

HS25A from Volvo or the ZF 25A, or the Twin Disc TM345A.
The MS2A had a unique to Volvo bolt up pattern. You may need an adaptor plate

I’m curious, how come no one likes the ZF30, the extra clutch plates would be useful with the higher power output from the turbo, especially if the owner operates at the top end of the power output curve. Not sayin the ZF25 won’t do the job, just that the ZF30 will do it better.

In all honesty, I would not recommend a ZF mechanical gear box to anybody. The Hydraulic boxes are doing well and always have.
The ZF 30 was purpose built to be a cheap gear for the higher HP Yanmar 4 cylinder engines. Unfortunately, they do not last in those applications.

Can you post a picture of the Yanmar with that gearbox, I’m unaware of either the ZF 25 or 30 ever being used. They had a long relationship with Hurth/Kanzaki and used ZF hydraulic reversing gears on the 4LH’s

The ZF 30M is listed as an option on the data sheets for the current Yanmar common rail engines.

Thanks Farron, I looked up the data sheets and they list a ZF for everything from a 3JH right through to a 6LP but never fitted them, ( the mechanical ones that is)I guess its a “ if ya really want a ZF” possibilities list.
