Which Drive/Damper/Flex Plate?

Hi all,

I'm having a terrible time trying to find the correct Drive/Damper/Flex Plate for my Ford Lehman 120 which is (was) hooked up to a Paragon HJ7 (26 spline)

I'm up to my third failed plate now. I tried getting someone to drill holes in a plate as accurately as possible but the plate is still failing. (I'm assuming because it's not spinning symmetrically)

I've now tried to get the fly wheel off so I can bring it to someone to just have a plate fitted but I can't get the bloody fly wheel off!!

Does anyone know how I find the correct plate for this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Which Drive/Damper/Flex Plate?

In the third closeup of the flywheel there are two smaller threaded holes opposite each other, these are threaded and can be used to ease the flywheel off the two locating dowels by simply screwing the correct long bolt into each hole until it bottoms out and starts to push the flywheel off.
This is a very heavy flywheel so you need to put 2 of the original bolts loosely back in their holes to avoid losing control of the situation. You might need to bolt a couple of lifting lugs to the vacant damper plate bolt holes to get that chunk of metal out of the machinery space.

And use grade 8 bolts in the holes to break it free, tighten them down and hopefully it pops free, if it doesn’t use a hammer on them, and if you strike the Flywheel do so carefully as they can be easily dented, usually.
Ever pulled the flywheel on a small engine? Similar thing here.

Skipper Pete you're basically my f**cking hero!

I've never taken a fly wheel off before no. All of this stuff is new to me.

Wish I had the money to just pay someone!

Thanks so much for your help - again!

Re: Which Drive/Damper/Flex Plate?

I’m still a bit curious about the short lives of your damper plates, they normally last for many hundreds, often thousands of hours. The plates available normally have several different patterns of bolt holes and for a flat flywheel like yours, the outside diameter is less important..... with a recessed flywheel the task of locating the right size is harder.
Pete.

Re: Which Drive/Damper/Flex Plate?

I was thinking myself that if the plate was slightly off center, wouldn’t it be the transmission input bearing that would fail, not the plate?
With the transmission off The run out on the plate ought to easy to measure.
