What is this?

What is it and where did it come from? I found this bolt underneath my Yanmar model 3GM30F diesel engine. Cannot find a missing hole to put back into.

Thoughts?

Re: What is this?

Maybe a sacrificial anode? Could be a spare. Look at the exchanger, you may see a similar one.

Re: What is this?

Oddly it just showed up out of the blue on the diaper underneath the engine. So maybe it had been resting on something before. But also I cleaned it up to see the metal type and it appears to me that is brass. Can a sacrificial anode be brass?

Re: What is this?

Oil pan drain plug? Is the tip magnetic? That's common with oil pan drain plugs to attract any metal particles that may be swimming around in the oil.

I checked and has no magnetism. It appears to be brass.

Re: What is this?

3GM30F engines have no cooling system anodes. The tip seems to be designed to seal like used on a bleed screw. Trying to remember what the bleed screw on the lift pump looks like but the memory escapes.

Re: What is this?

Do you have the owners maintenance manual? Bet it’s in one of the schematic diagrams.

I have an operations manual but don't see any fine detail schematics.

Re: What is this?

It wasn't located near the transmission, but I'll double check.

Re: What is this?

The tip is perfectly flat and does have an indent line down the taper. So it does seem like it is used to seal something off.

Yep, it's a bleed screw/drain plug for the cooling system...

On second thought, if it’s a cooling system drain, why isn’t there coolant all over the place?
