Westerbeke W80 aux heat exchanger

My Westerbeke W80 has an auxiliary heat exchanger that was installed by the previous owner adjacent to the engine. I don't know why it was installed or if the engine had cooling issues before, but I have no reason to believe the factory heat exchanger is inadequate. Best I can think is that it was done out of an abundance of caution, as he also duplicated many of the other systems (alternators, chargers, strainers, etc.) I'm thinking about removing it, as the plumbing blocks some access to part of the engine bay.

Good idea or bad one? Anyone have any experience with this engine or it's sisters? It's based on British Leyland 4/98.
