Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
Since the Westerbeke W30 is apparently based on the BMC 1.5L diesel, is it okay to use the Champion AG32A glow plug (or its equivalent) recommended for the British motor at about $15 each instead of the Westerbeke ones (which are like hens teeth to find) at $60 or so each?

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Waterjack.
I'd expect your substitution would work, provided they fit. Glow plugs are just "heaters".

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
Hi Waterjack,
I have a like-new Westerbeke glowplug for the W30 for sale, part number 14529. Used only one day, then I decided to repower (long story!). $59.00, free postage in the USA. I also have many other parts from the engine in good working condition.
Best regards,
The Way

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
I believe I used Champion CH32 in my W30 - Think they are the same as AG32 - In either case, i purchased them from ASAP-Supplies for the BMC 1.5, so yes, the BMC glow plugs will work for the W30. .

Just for what it's worth - especially for you guys who are in cold climates - you can use a heat gun or hand held propane torch applied to the intake manifold to get the old girl started. Just dont start any fires!

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
Bought mine from asap as well, carefully replacing and I beleive its a 11/32 bit to clean out the chamber. Confirm online.

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
That engine is the 127 cu.in Mitsubishi block. Case, and many others use it in various construction equipment. Ask at Tractor Supply. Those folks know every piece of farm equipment there is.

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug Substitute
If all else fails pull a glow plug and take it to parts stores and small equipment dealers and see if they can match it up. Glow plugs for my 3 cylinder Mitsubishi on my gen set range in price from $90.00 down to $12.00 on eBay. Good luck
