Westerbeke 10 Two Fresh Water Pump

Hello,

New to this forum and new to boating. Bought a Nonsuch 22 last year and have it berthed in Alameda. I have an immediate need for some mechanical advice so we can resume sailing. We have a Westerbeke 10 Two vintage 1973, and the fresh water pump has siezed up. $540 for a new one from Westerbeke. I understand that this is a Kubota engine and wonder if this pump can be purchased from Kubota/Beta? Does anyone know the equivalent engine number for the Kubota or where to look on my 10 Two for the serial number? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Fresh water pumps can be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost.
A machine shop or a mechanic can do it for you.

rebuilding fresh water pump

Thanks for the response.

Had the pump in a highly recommended machine shop today. Shaft is bent somehow and doesn't look good as a rebuild candidate. He suggested tracking down the Kubota pump.

Not entirely sure but it may be Kubota's Beta Ten marine diesel enginesee this webpage Beta Marine Small Diesel Boat Engines, Replacement Diesel Boat Engines California, Sausalito or
Beta Marine West - Beta Marine Diesel Engines, Motor Dealer, Boat, Yacht Mechanical Repowering, Sausalito, CA
and for service parts see Beta Marine US Ltd. Distributors for Kubota based marine diesel engines and generators for sailboats, yachts and trawler boats.

Hope it works

I believe that the Westerbeke 10-2 is based on a Mitsubishi diesel. Parts for these should be available but not as readily as for Kubota diesel.

Westerbeke 10 Two Fresh Water Pump

Thanks for responding. The block is K2AS which is a Mitsubishi. Having trouble sourcing a water pump for this block. My pump rebuilder in Berkeley says the Koyo bearings used in the pump are very small and no longer imported into US. He is looking into special ordering them from Japan.

Anyone had one of these rebuilt?

Anyone have any other ideas for me?

Thanks,

Jim
