Volvo Penta D2-55

I have this engine in my sailboat and twice within 300 engine hours the engine/alternator support bracket has broken. It seems that the metal has fatigued very quickly and fractured in the same place on both occasions. A replacement bracket is not cheap...350 euros + tax. I have no other issues with the engine and have been told by a mechanic that it is not an unusual problem. Has anybody else experienced this and if so what has been your solution?
