Volvo Penta D1-30 Rubber Cushions - any alternative ?

Hi all,
Yesterday i discovered to my newly bought HR352 , that the engine mounts are
totally destroyed. I knew that one of them are near it's end, but 3 of the 4, are near in the same condition.
Volvo sell each rubber cushion for 270Euro ! more than 1000Euro for the 4 of them !
So i'm looking for alternatives as this was not budgeted

engine D1-30 Volvo

Thanks

Try Polyflex, available in most countries and probably better than original Volvo ones.

Thanks for the info. As i can't figure out what type of their product suit my engine, i 've send an email to Germany's distributor.

Marineparts, have them for 220/each + shipping...

This a crazy rip-off. The same part for a car is just around 30 euro. I would consider DIY polyurethane restoration. Not a cosmic science...

There are may rubber engine mounts/vibration dampers available from non-marine places. A good local rubber/plastic shop should have these at a fraction of the Volvo cost.

For Sweden one of these shops would be Kuntze.

Re: Volvo Penta D1-30 Rubber Cushions - any alternative ?

A mechanic he took a look and as he suggested, every engine has it's own rubber suspension. You have to consider weight and propeller rotation !
As he said, one of his customers he didn't used Volvo's cushion and all engine's vibrations was effective even to the mast. He couldn't stay on board coz of vibrations in the whole rpm range, so he moved to Volvo's parts.
Have anyone used something else than recommended by engine maker ?

Re: Volvo Penta D1-30 Rubber Cushions - any alternative ?

These people in NL (Netherlands?) have Volvo originals p/n 3888806 for 140 euros. Don't know what the tax would be.

https://enginepartsntools.com/produc...penta-genuine/

According to the manual, all four are the same part number, so rotation doesn't make a difference.

https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en...0-21-8306.aspx

If you have a saildrive, the p/n is 846765, original is about 250 euro, but aftermarket are available by p/n for less than 100.00.

The important thing is the durometer or hardness of the rubber the cushioning element is made from. Any good mount supplier will be able to recommend an appropriate one based on the model engine you supply them. You should probably be able to get a quality mount for 50-70 euros, for poly expect to pay around a 100 (but that's a guess).

On my MD2020, for the front I used some used front mounts from a Mercruiser 350 IO, and some new rear mounts that I can't remember what they were for. Would seem stiff for such a small motor; but, at wide open you can converse inside the boat, and you can barely tell the engine is running from outside. There is a little vibration but it is hardly objectionable.

Yes, two times, both with good results. But you have to think about which type and hardness of vibration dampers to use. This is also dependent on the transmission/shaft system.

Re: Volvo Penta D1-30 Rubber Cushions - any alternative ?

For our D2-40 I'm 95% certain that the Volvo mounts are re-branded Vetus mounts, which are 1/4 to 1/2 the price. The KSTEUN and HY series (I'm guessing the former for the D1, but maybe the HY100). Take a look and compare the specifications, but fairly certain the difference is the logo embossed in the metal.

Re: Volvo Penta D1-30 Rubber Cushions - any alternative ?

Last winter we had to replace the engine-mounts of our 40year old 55HP Volvo Penta engine, and bought commercial off-the-shelf mounts for totally 70Euro. The new ones worked perfectly this year, better than the original ones. Criteria for selecting engine-mounts: 1) mechanical compatibility (distance between mounting bolts in the baseplate, height between engine bracket and mounting base, possibly adjustable, upper bolt-diameter). 2) Static weight rating needs to be more than the engine-weight divided by the number of mounts. 3) the softer the better.
Larger height adjustments should be done by adding a distance plate below the new engine-mounts, rather than above at the engine bracket (to reduce leverage).

I call BS on that one. Many mechanics will tell you you can only use the original branded marinisers part. Maybe it happened like he said but it could be from bad mount selection . You just need to size to fit the weight & mounting dimensions & hardness as others have said.
google motor mounts & you may find some local manufacturer who can make them for you. We have them in NZ which is only a small country. They make mounts for Yanmars 1/2 the price of the yanmar agents.
