Volvo Penta AQAD30/A Replacement Engine

I recently purchased an Invader 772 cruiser as a project to rebuild. The boat contained the Volvo Penta AQAD30 and the DP290 Sterndrive. The Sterndrive I have had completely reconditioned and is like new again. I have been told that the best replacement for this engine would be the Volvo Penta D3 – however finding a reconditioned one of these is proving difficult and don’t fancy spending the money on a brand new one.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows which diesel engine’s which would fit to my 290dp Stern/Transform? I am beginning to think that going away from Volvo and choosing something else might be wiser as finding a reconditioned penta is proving impossible!
