Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

Most Volvo Banjo fittings are M14 X 1.5 X 26 , This is typical for 90% of Volvo's but you should double check if you can with your part number

Forgot to mention about $70 each from Volvo and about $8 from on line https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/573...1-5x26-968179/

Dont forget to get new copper washers with the bolts,

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

Actually Steve, the banjo bolt #968179 which you say costs $70 from Volvo is available from Volvo Penta dealer Marine Parts Express under two different part numbers for considerably less:

-VP 2003 parts book number - #969299- $8.92
-VP number - #968179 - $11.71

I know some VP parts are expensive, but really.......

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

Actually D,

I was using the posts part number as supplied in his original post as 840317 price was from major US supplier as (copied and pasted)

840317 Volvo Penta $71.71 $68.84

So perhaps it's a whole assembly but thats the price for the part number 840317

i WAS NOT referring to the banjo part number which i supplied for reference only as to the normal size of Volvo Banjo bolts

Sorry Steve,

I must have misunderstood you.....the way I read your post was that what cost $70 from Volvo could be found on line for $8.

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

Vtomanov,

It turns out that fuel hose #840317 uses banjo bolt #869299, and this banjo bolt is 12mm diameter X 1.5 thread X 24 mm long.

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

You can make your own banjo bolts for next to nothing. Get the right size bolt from the hardware store (maybe fifty cents) and grind about a quarter of the threads off one side so it's looks kind of like a "D" from the end. The screw doesn't lose much strength and won't break off like the hollow ones do. All the banjos on my previous boat were like that. I don't think they were factory original but they worked just fine. And in over ten years I never broke one. Can't say that about the hollow ones I've had.

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

My problem was actually the broken/leaking out hose with the banjo... and was trying to get a replacement from a reasonable priced shop - volvo asks for the out hose with the banjo nearly £200 ! in the end I got frustrated - took the pipe out with a cutter put a normal fuel hose with a clamp on the original banjo and voala - all is good now including I put a tap/valve on the other side of the hose as when working on the engine I do not have tap/valve to close on the return and I need to discover a solution on the fly to stop diesel pouring under the engine

btw the return fuel line bolt is 14 but need a wrench 18 for some reason the other bolts need wrench 17 ....

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

Sounds like you should look at Choose Schematics - Marine Parts Express

Good site with schematics and reasonable pricing as your 200 pound part is listed @$70,

Just an observation re making your own Banjo bolts be careful here as many engines require a certain amount of diesel to return to the tank and if the flow rate rate of the "home made" banjo dosent match then problems can arise,

I recently had a interesting problem when a Volvo Md31 (61 HP) refused to run up to full RPM under load and was misfiring at no load in the higher RPM, a long long story short: some one had replaced the Banjo bolt on the fuel injector pump with a conventional Banjo (the correct one has a restriction orifice) so the injector pump was not getting the correct amount of pre pressure/quantity of fuel,

So as above be careful with Banjo bolts they may not be so simple

Cheers Steve

Re: Volvo Penta 2003 Fuel Line Banjo Size

I wanted to replace the Banjo itself ( not the bolts) in the end I reused the original Banjo e.g. no changes

Thanks for the schematics link ! very useful !
