Volvo Penta 2002 MD Control Panel

Howdy,
I have a Volvo Penta MD 2002 with a basic control panel (key, tach, idiot lights). The panel is dying, cracked, bulbs burnt out, rust, etc. I want to upgrade the whole panel with new gauges. Volvo no longer sells the delux panel. Has anyone been down this road?

I have found VDO gauges that combine warning lights and I know I have to get matching sender units, but I cannot figure out how to determine if they will be compatible with the engine, e.g., sender diameter, thread size, range.

Any input would be appreciated.
