Volvo Penta 2001 help

Lost my ignition key silly me no spare. Can anyone tell me what the R position is for on the ignition switch? My switch shows 0 R I II III.

The key switch on the 2001 was also used on other larger engines at the time, and these larger engines used functions that weren’t necessarily used by the 2001. The key positions are:

0 - energize the stop solenoid - stop engine, key turned counterclockwise, spring loaded back to R
R - switch off, key can be removed
I - ignition on, engine can run, key turned one notch clockwise, panel energized
II - glow plugs energized, key turned two notches clockwise, spring loaded back to I
III - glow plugs and starter motor energized, key turned three notched clockwise, spring loaded back to I. Panel de energized.

Thanks for the info. Unless you can tell me different I will try and change the switch because I don't need all the functions. The volvo switch is £200 non Volvo 30 amp £20. My engine has a mechanical pull to stop and I believe no glow plug so I only need 3 position.
R- switch off key remove
1- ignition on, panel energised
2- spring return ignition plus starter motor
Does that sound OK or have I missed a trick? thanks

Your analysis is correct. You don’t need all the bells and whistles so the switch you described will work fine for you.
