Volvo MD21b Circulation Pump Options

Noticed play in the circulation pump shaft/pulley... went online to order a repair kit and possibly a new housing (haven't taken it off yet, but want to plan for the worst) and was disappointed to learn that all of the circulation pump parts are now out of production. Wanted to leverage the intelligence of the forum to discuss options. Here is what I've come up with so far:

A) Possibly pay through the nose for a complete pump that a gentleman is having manufactured in Sweeden next week.
B) Find someone with a rebuild kit and hope the housing is ok
C) Convert to a Jabsco pulley driven pump?
D) Convert to a Jabsco electric pump?

Other ideas?

Re-power is also an option... but would rather get at least 2000 more hours out of the old Volvo since the rest of the engine is in great shape.

What would the best option be?

Re: Volvo MD21b Circulation Pump Options

First off keep in mind I've never even seen your particular type engine but after looking at the exploded parts diagram it would seem you can buy most of the wear items and rebuild the pump. I am assuming that your engine is freshwater cooled and that the impeller is still usable. I would be leery of an impeller type pump running in hot water and also the thermostat when closed would restrict the flow too much for the impeller. An electric centrifugal pomp would most probably do the job just fine. I can't remember the manufacturer's name but they are used in buses and motor homes to circulate hot water from the engine to the heaters in the back of the bus. Good luck. Just my two cents, Mike.
