Volvo MD 22L question

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with the Volvo MD22L engine? What is necessary to keep this engine working smoothly and, most importantly, reliably well into very high time? Is there anything to watch out for -- bits to replace early because they have a reputation for failing?

Re: Volvo MD 22L question

I have the turbo version, TMD 22.
No problem with the engine, reliable, and most parts can be found cheaply the base engine was used in quite a few cars.

Re: Volvo MD 22L question

Hi,
Had one of these on a saildrive for 11 years on a moody I sold a year ago. The main issues were crankshaft oil leaks at both output end and pulley end, high oil consumption, exhaust elbow corrosion, engine water circulation pump failure, engine temp always causing concern, seal on water pump">raw water pump failing and finally the big one for me was my dislike of any engine with a cam belt. Saw a big failure on the cam on a friends boat. Did I mention the parts prices?
It did however always start.
Will
