Vetus 2.05

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Vetus 2.05 engine. I Recently bought a 1978 O’Day with this engine. It’s in pretty bad shape and will not start. Was told it had low compression. Do they sell a rebuild kit for this engine? I can’t seem to be able to find any information on it. That I you in advance.

Re: Vetus 2.05

Those engines are no longer made, so spare could be a problem. However, Vetus don't make engines, they like so many other marine engine supplier use base engines manufactured in the Far East or some Peugeot engines for the larger sizes. Spares for obsolete Vetus engines can be a problem.

However, its a diesel engine. So why do you think it has low compression? That would be worth checking after you try starting it with a good squirt of easy start.

That is based on a mitsubishi k2b engine . Same motor is also called the westerbeke 10-2
What do you want to know I have 2 of them.
One major item is they need 20 seconds of glow plugs to start .

https://youtu.be/KJFi9UYXe-k
Also have lots of spare parts .

Hello NewHaul. Thank you for your reply. I’m not very familiar with this site as far as sending messages and receiving them so I hope this is correct. Not sure if you have another way for me to contact you to ask questions. As far as the motor goes, I have not tried to start it yet. The guy that I bought it from said that the guy he got it from, stated it had low compression. I know nothing about diesel engines and even less about diesel boat engines so I’m hoping to pick your brain about my issue. Thanks.
