Velvet Drive leakage

I have a leak between the trans and the reduction gear. I am now pulling the reduction gear off for the third time trying to figure it out. Have pulled and re gasketed the adapter plate ans well as the reduction gear gasket.

I used gasket sealant the last time on both sides of both gaskets and that didnt help. Torque seems right on the bolts.

Am I missing something? Bob

Re: Velvet Drive leakage

An ideal situation would be to place the disassembled case halves onto a granite surface plate to use feeler gauges on the gasket surface, but that is impractical for this service.

A careful examination of the gasket surface for visual defects and usage of a straight edge on the gasket surfaces is a good first step.

Ensure a cross pattern is used for tightening the bolts at reassembly. I would do three or four levels of increasing torque, with the last being tightening to specification.
