Under sink engine installation

We're installing a new Yanmar 4JH5E on our Hans Christina 38 Telstar. The engine is under the galley sinks. The old engine was destroyed by a leak from said sink (we were not the owners!) so we want to avoid any possibility of that happening again. Also seems like the sinks would act as speakers for engine noise.

So we're thinking of building a sort of sloping enclosure around the sink. Sloping so any water that collects there could drain to the side and enclosed so we can put sound insulation on it. We're sound insulating with sounddown.

Anyone done this? Any tips on handling an over the engine sink? Any pictures of your installation?

Thanks!

Re: Under sink engine installation

TN's engine has lived under her double sinks for decades without a leak problem. Sealing your sinks and plumbing is childsplay. Adding sound insulation, the same.

Not if he installs a noise canceling sound generator system.

Re: Under sink engine installation

My old woody had the engine under the galley sink and it was never a problem. Just need to check the plumbing from time to time. I don't think anyone has ever made their engine really quiet but I'd consider spraying the bottom of the sinks with some foam to help a bit.
