Timber or steel for engine mounts

Concrete?

Here in Oz they take a couple of forms:

The simplest, probably what we are thinking of here, are L or C steel sections, relatively thick (5 or more mm), galvanised and used mostly when you are putting a window or door into a preexisting wall, brick mostly but other forms too.

Like this...https://www.bianco.com.au/galvanised...x100x10-2400mm

There is another sort that are made of much thinner steel (less than 3 mm) and are formed from a kind of crinkle-cut chip style of steel which you fill with wet concrete and allow to cure while supported. These are used mostly when building windows or doorways into new brick walls.

Like these.. https://www.bianco.com.au/galvanised...0x100x6-2400mm

I’m sure you have the same, just known by different name perhaps?

Incidentally, the thin steel crinkly sort really had me worried when I first used them building my last house. I just couldn’t believe they’d be strong enough, particularly as they couldn’t even support their own weight. But, by golly, when the concrete set... insanely strong!

I'm sure you'll get it right but putting concrete in a boat is a little like taking up the company of very young women when you turn 80 - a definite sign that you are about to go completely of the rails.

At 80 I will definitely not care less whether people think I'm going off the rails

My boat uses 4" x 4" square Aluminum tubing. It's got a couple large holes bored in the top to access the heads of the bolts securing it to the hull.

I'd respond to those enquiries myself but I'd then live in fear that one of them might actually turn up on the jetty one day.

Forget the Russian or Ukrainian ones, get a Brazilian one to show up
at the dinghy dock waiting for you.

Now, that’s living.

Hey Matt, what did you end up using for the mounts and have you fitted the new Beta yet?

Steel angles with timber infills. Engine is sitting in position, waiting for a friend to make the coupling adapter.

I suppose so... when I think about it.

But it looks so very, very small and lonely in there now. The old Nissan was huge.

Ahh, that leaves you room to curl up near it in the cold winter nights ahead, Matt... almost as good as a dog, and ya never have to take it for walkies...

And if you don't kick it in the guts, it does't have a smelly exhaust like dog...

Actually, I’m going to repo all that space for storage when I get some time.

But in lieu of your suggestion, I might wait till the weather warms a little.
