temp probe for my Bukh 24hp
Hi, I purchased a new VDO probe and gauge for my Bukh but the gauge simply goes off the scale... how do I match them. The inboard motor guys in Auckland want $300 for a probe which I wont be paying!

Re: temp probe for my Bukh 24hp
Are you referring to coolant temperature or exhaust gas temperature or some other temperature?
Regardless, if it is VDO gauge and VDO probe and they were supplied as a package, they should be compatible.
However if they were supplied separately, then they could well be incompatible as there are various standards between manufacturers.
Do you have the part or model number for the gauge and sensor (probe)?

Also, is this a raw water or coolant cooled engine?
What is the scale (upper and lower) on the new gauge?

Indeed.
This old thread might help.

VDO sender catalog is available on line. Most auto racing supply stores will have what you need in stock. Summit racing. Jegs, etc....

Re: temp probe for my Bukh 24hp
You don't state what you are wanting to measure i.e. temperature, pressure or fluid flow?
As an ex. VDO dealer, that said, I suggest that you contact the accredited VDO dealer from whom you purchased the items and ask them. As dealers they will have all of the gauge and sender charts which will give appropriate compatibility ratings. It is not very complicated.
Fair winds,
Niall.

I reckon it is fair bet to say the OP is measuring temperature given the thread title although it is somewhat unclear which fluid is being measured for temperature.
Your advice however, is spot on .
