Tank cleaning service..

Having experienced two unexpected engine shut downs at the most inappropriate times(in major shipping channels) due to rough seas stirring up crud in the bottom of the fuel tank..looking for a tank cleaning service in the St. Mary’s, Ga. area..yes my fuel tank is baffled and it does have an inspection opening port in the fuel tank.

Re: Tank cleaning service..

While fully respectful of Gord's expertise, I wonder whether such services are geared to one cruiser as opposed to industrial sites. I suspect that if I was faced with this, which could happen, I might tackle it myself by flushing the tank through a fuel filter into another tank, rinsing the empty tank with some fresh fuel, and either discarding or recycling the filtered fuel. Other routes, such as suctioning it out through the inspection port, also occur to me. How big is the tank? Is it diesel or gasoline?

Re: Tank cleaning service..

Many years ago, when I had mine done, several dockmates cooperated on a single service call, reducing the cost slightly.
A pro’ tank polisher uses a very high pressure nozzle to scour the inside of the tank (breaking up adhered sludge), and multiple filtres, and multiple passes to clean your dirty tank.
This isn’t required to maintain a clean tank.
