Study hall idea

If you see above, I have posted a maintenance schedule. I have nmade this a sticky, so as we don't have to go searching for it. I have called this a "Study Hall" area. This means as very important or very common topics arise, info can be posted in this section for "Study". This will result in information to common or important discussions not being buried with age. If a common question is asked, then the asker can be directed to the study location so as they can read the information.

PLEASE, do not post anything in that section, WITHOUT passing it by me first. That is not to say I know it all, but more importantly I can run it past others that have greater knowledge than I to ensure the information is correct before it is posted.

Excelent idea, once it builds up, it could be huge though. Have you given any thought to how it is going to be arranged ? topic, alphabetically, ...? I have no doubt that as a "first port of call" it will become very useful and perhaps lessen the number of duplicate posts. I have found that using search facilities on heaps of forums are at best average and not very inclusive and at worst a complete frustrating waste of time. To be able to direct people with basic questions to a "cyber study hall" and then have the wise ones anwser more detailed question makes sense. I cant wait to see the notes on ferro..... ; )

Subjects need to be answers to commonly asked questions. The papers need to be factual and not just opinion. Opinion we can have fun debating. Fact is just like what I have started off with.
e.g. Someone writing a paper on the advantages of FC over Steel, is opinion. Someone writing a paper stating that FC is is a plaster over a steel matrix and a steel hull is solid steel, is fact. But is not a need to know fact by many of us.
It will become more obviouse when we get more info in the Hall. We have a good list of topics. I am holding off till we sort one point. At the mo, the Admin/Mod team is discussing a formal area, or Study Hall Forum heading and just where it should be placed. Andy has special software for this and we may implement it soon.

No sorry, that is one thing I am greatly opposed to. If ya want to know why, go take a look at the Bilge area of L&A.

Thanks.

How about "before starting" or "after stopping" maintenance actions?

I think I'll also work on a "how to" for each step. Not to take away from the owner's manual, but I like to jot down those handy "diesel for dummies" tricks you have so nicely shared.

You know that you just volunteered to be the editor in chief for a textbook on cruising, right?
